Press Release July 2008.
The 4th stop on the Dodge Rodeo Tour 2008 schedule finds us returning to most Eastern Location - Warkworth. THE BIGGEST and BEST RODEO IN EASTERN ONTARIO, Warkworth, returns after a virtual Sell Out last year where over 200 Cowboys and Cowgirls came to town and put on an action packed show. The crowds were the largest Rodeo crowds in the 11 year history that they have had with this promotion. The line up for tickets went clear across the rodeo grounds at times. With tremendous weather, the crowds filled the outdoor arena and many stayed to enjoy the Saturday night dance where Alberta Premium Rye literally sold out.
Warkworth is a community in the county of Northumberland. The village of Warkworth, formerly named Benfield (1857), is part of the municipality of Trent Hills, formed in 2001. The village features the historic Town Hall, now the Centre for the Arts and also home to the public library. The village has Percy Centennial Public School, a community nursing home, medical centre and a seniors residence. The town rink is also a primary centre of social interaction, historically serving hockey and ringette players as well as curlers. The Village has a vital cultural life of live theatre and music and is home to many accomplished artists, and artisans. A historical plaque honouring local artist J.D. Kelly is located just outside of the Village centre.
Warkworth hosts many significant special events which attract many thousands of tourists including the annual Maple Syrup Festival in March, the summer Dodge Rodeo, the Rural Ramble, the Fall Fair, studio, house and garden tours and of course the famous Long Lunch in August. Warkworth has been a hockey powerhouse, capturing 11 Provincial titles, most recently in 1993-1994. Warkworth hosts one of Eastern Ontario largest Truck Shows.
The Warkworth men's hockey team is set to again host the Dodge Rodeo for the 12th Annual Warkworth Western Weekend on July 5th and 6th. Wayne Pearson, Chuck Mills and the rest of the men's Hockey team are truly a strong group of community minded committee members that stand together to support initiatives in their town. The monies that they have raised over the years have always gone back to support the community's needs. This year they host a two day rodeo event with a Saturday evening dance.
Head out to Warkworth this year - A Dodge Rodeo Community Event that always delivers!!
